I downloaded the RC1 over a week ago but I got the dreaded remove Windows Shrepoint Services - error so couldnt install it. However today I managed to track down a reference to STS from an old Frontpage Web development from a couple of years ago. Deleted this directory which was in the Program Files Directory. Then I deleted the web extensions\12 from the Common Files directory and re ran the install. This time it said I could install. Started the Install at 09:30hrs - at 12:24 it is still going - but at least it has got through the first few boots and its on the 'completeing upgrade' stage and the disk light is flashing. Hope is eternall 13:46hrs - gave up and rebooted the machine as it didnt seem to have done anything for an hour at least. Machine rebooted with Windows Setup Rollback. It is now trying to restore the previous version of Windows. Hopefully this will work! See my comment below.

Ok
The install failed so I restored. Then I started again at 2pm yesterday. It got to completing upgrade and stuck. I left it doing this from 3pm yesterday until 8am this morning and gave up. Tried to restore but it didnt work . RC1 has screwed the machine.

Am now reformatting and doing a clean install - would you believe that it has only taken 20 minsand i am already at the performance checking part.

Microsoft is seriously going to have to sort out the Upgrade from XP to Vista otherwise Corporations will not be able to use it.

I dont believe this. After spending nearly 24hrs trying to do an upgrade. A clean install has only taken 25 minutes!!!
